7 Bollywood Movies That Hit Hard Post Graduation
Bollywood is known to romanticize college life. We all remember Amir Khan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak giving the farewell speech right before ‘Papa Kehte Hai Bada Naam Karega’ or the same speech before ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’ in Dil Chahta Hai. Once in a while, away from the action movie genre comes a light-hearted movie that’s just good and refreshing to watch. Post-Graduation, you are on the verge of figuring out your life and are going through an emotional rollercoaster, which is when these movies come and just happen to hit the right note of your heart. Although we know there is a long list of them, we’d like to show the top 7 of them in no particular order.
1. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na: There hasn’t been a more realistic portrayal of college life in Bollywood than this movie. No fancy college, stylish clothing, students entering in Ferraris and Sports Bikes in this one just a pure and innocent love story between Jai and Aditi and a group of friends who gave friendship goals to everyone. The entire bond of friendship feels so natural in this movie that you will definitely call your besties after watching this gem. Ps: You all might also be hooked to singing ‘Tera Mujhse Hai Pehle Ka Naata Koi… Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na…’ randomly in the middle of the day after watching this one.

2. Dil Chahta Hai: Three friends plan a Goa trip and have the time of their life, but then life happens, and all of them choose separate career paths and years later take a trip down the memory lane, recollecting what a bond they had. The directorial debut of Farhan Akhtar gave travel goals to an entire generation and is definitely an emotional roller coaster ride. There is a scene where years later, Amir’s character Aakash is stuck on a traffic signal right outside his college and just happens to get the flashback of him sitting with his friends back in his college days, laughing and enjoying. That scene makes me cry each and every time. Post-graduation, as everyone gets placed in different companies and now has their own problems, this movie just hits the right chord.

3. Wake Up Sid: A pampered boy who is the apparent college stud meets an independent woman who makes him understand how satisfying it is to stand up on your own feet. This movie is very relatable post-graduation as you go on job hunting, questioning what you genuinely want to do and how to achieve that goal. Even post spending three years in college, you sometimes don’t understand how to be mature or responsible, and the change feels very sudden. This movie perfectly captures that emotion and makes it a memorable watch.

4. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: This film needs no introduction. Not only did this film gave every friend’s group the idea of ‘Chal Na Manali Chalte Hai’, but it also inspired millions of backpackers to follow their dreams and explore the world. Whenever life hits you, and you just miss your friends really hard, this movie wraps around you like a really cosy blanket. Naina, Aditi, Bunny and Avi are just friendship goals.

5. Tamasha: A movie that did not work initially at the box office, but in retrospect, is genuinely a masterpiece is Tamasha. The story of a guy forced to work in a set of ways and take specific career paths as considered reasonable in the society stumbles upon a girl in a land far, far away who makes him realize who he truly is and puts him on a journey of self-discovery. This film makes you question your life choices and whether you are happy to be a part of the world’s binaries or are the one who just wants to break free. Post Graduation, as existential thoughts are at their peak, this movie genuinely hits hard.

6. Badmaash Company: After completing their graduation, friends start a company that uses unfair practices to profit. Everything goes well until their conscience hits them, and the protagonist is left alone in an unknown world only to realize that when the mind is used in the right direction, it can do wonders. As you are stepping into the corporate world and adapting to changes, this movie perfectly captures the emotions you go through.

7. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year: A budding salesman aspirant joins a big corporation only to discover and adjust to corporate life’s dirty secrets and politics. You have got your new job and are somewhat on the discovery stage of the world and are trying to acquire street-smart skills while adjusting to the corporate culture. Rocket Singh is a must-watch for you. The sheer intelligence and smartness showcased in the film are what makes it a treat to watch.

Indeed, many of them could not be covered, so let us know in the comment section below and drop in your opinion of which movies you feel hit hard post-graduation.
